1/2 employed again

I've been wanting to tell you that I found out on Tuesday that I'm being made redundant at Multifaith, as they're consolidating my position and our bookkeeping position, and I'm neither qualified nor interested in the new job. On the days that I'm at work, I'm in the process of saying goodbyes and making the transition happen smoothly. I'll be around for somewhere between two weeks and a month until the new position is filled.

The disappointing thing, of course, is that it took me two and a half years to be fully employed in jobs that fulfilled my idealistic longings for purposeful employment. Back down to 1/2 fulfilled again.

For those who are wondering, I'm not going back to the bottle shop (although vocalizing that is the kiss of death). I'm not sure what I'm going to fill my time with actually. The financial hit isn't helpful, although it's not as bad as it would have been 3 months ago when we were still trying to catch up. The issue is that I have about one year to fill 20 hours a week, and then I'm probably off to seminary. I'm trying to decide whether I want to pursue something meaningful and resign myself to a long and potentially fruitless job search, or just stick with something mindless and get income flowing again. Back to the joys of the open job market...

Hey, I'm just happy it wasn't your OTHER job that went away. ;) Best of luck filling the other 20 hours ...

Thanks Josh. Me too.

Andrew, that's not funny.

I wonder if you could fool some periodical into paying you to write about religion in Seattle--you write plenty about religion in Seattle, but I dont know how good you are at fooling business folk.

I could think of worse jobs--like slinging fish down at pike place; or having a full time job with paid benefits for you and the wife (that would suck!); male prostitution?
